At Lux Lab Production House, our partners are our heroes. We love to partner with the type of people who are willing to do whatever it takes to make the world a better place because they understand what's at stake if they don't get after it.
This has always been the case with our friends at Bella Health and Wellness.
Based locally here in Denver, CO, Bella provides healthcare that embraces the dignity of the human person. This mission is made manifest in the ways they serve all of their patients, but uniquely, in how they serve the many women over the years who have come to Bella in a time of crisis pregnancy.
Bella was first started when mother and daughter nurse practitioners, Dede Chism and Abby Sinnett were serving on a medical mission in Peru. Fast-forward to the present and certainly within the context of the current global COVID-19 pandemic, that mission-driven service continues on a daily basis.
Practically, Bella has adapted to these special circumstances by finding new and creative ways to serve their patients including introducing telemedicine and drive-up testing. They have adopted new protocols as well as innovative technologies and methods to continue providing for the wellbeing of their patients while minimizing exposure to the infection. In fact, Dede herself joined U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams for a virtual town hall hosted by Fox News with Facebook back in early April.
(Side-note: If you are located here in Denver, you can email telemed@bellanwc.org for same-day care. In any case, be sure to check bellanwc.org/covid19-updates for all of their most recent updates in the midst of this crisis.)
A few months ago when we first met Dede Chism, co-founder, and Executive Director at Bella, the circumstances were dramatically different but the stakes were still high.
Bella had a fundraising Gala coming up and Dede’s vision was to engage their audience in a way they hadn’t been engaged in the past. In particular, she wanted to tell the timely, true story of a particular woman in crisis in a compassionate and deeply moving way.
It was our honor to partner with her to make this happen.
Never before had Bella created a video like the one Dede had in mind. She had a good idea of where she wanted the video to go and was very convicted that it was the right approach. In her own words, she remembers thinking, “I sure hope these guys can pull off what I think they can do. As the head of Bella, ultimately I had to make the decision and shoulder the burden of that. I didn’t want to be wrong about this, and there was risk involved, certainly.”
“ I felt like [Lux Lab’s] style of storytelling blended with my own. So for example, if I was telling this story, if I was trying to take someone on some type of visual journey, the way [Lux Lab] does it was the closest to the way I think about it too. “
“Lux Lab had examples of their work which demonstrated a style that is engaging, interesting, and entertaining. That past work gave me the confidence that they could pull it off for us. Others may had been able to pull it off too, but ultimately there was a different level of confidence I had with Lux Lab.”
After we had worked on it together and went back and forth a couple of times she just knew— “We got it!”
Looking back at the process that led up to that moment she told us, “I appreciated their collegial approach. Myself as a writer of stories, sometimes working among other artists, they wouldn’t allow others to speak into it as much— they want to deliver on their own vision, trying to emphasize one thing over another thing… I actually felt like all of the [Lux Lab] guys were very committed to hearing what I wanted and doing what they could to make that vision happen.”
“Their goal wasn’t that ‘Lux Lab’ ended up with a product that they liked, but that ‘Bella’ ended up with a product that they liked. They really wanted to come together with me and collaborate. This made all of the difference, especially since there was a lot of pressure on me and the decision I made to go in this direction— I had fought so hard to show that [Lux Lab] was the right call, so I was going to be held to the end result…”
And so what about the results?
“Lux Lab absolutely delivered as I had hoped. It was a great result: we were able to raise a lot of money. At least $100k over our goal. Not only that, but the video itself also has an emotional impact— it continues to bless people who see it.”
The takeaway?
“I would say that anyone could choose Lux Lab with confidence knowing that they are going to deliver what you’re looking for. They will work hard to deliver your vision— whatever your needs might be.”
It was a tremendous joy to partner with Bella and we are so excited by the results they’ve seen from the video. It is based on a true story of courage that has deeply affected us on a personal level and we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity.

Finally, the reality of the situation in which we find ourselves is dramatic, to say the least.
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected every single one of us in one way or another— reaching every corner of the globe. Many of our lives have been turned upside down personally, professionally, economically. At the end of the day, Bella is a nonprofit. Their mission to “make people whole” has never been more essential than it is now.
